Travel companions: planning a trip together

From weekend getaways to month-long international trips — what to consider when booking a travel companion, and how Luxury Sweets handles the logistics on your behalf.

Travel companions: planning a trip together

Travel-companion bookings are different from a single evening engagement. You're asking someone to leave their life for a stretch of time, share extended company with you, and adapt to wherever the trip takes you. The good ones love it — variety, new cities, longer conversations. But the planning side has more moving parts than a standard booking, and that's where we come in.

How rates work

Travel rates are quoted per day rather than per hour and include the companion's full attention for the duration of the trip. The rate covers her time only — flights, accommodation, meals, transport, and any visa requirements are arranged separately by the client and billed in addition.

For shorter trips (two to three nights) we typically book the same companion as a single engagement. For longer trips you may want to discuss who handles which logistics — most clients prefer to manage their own travel and have us coordinate hers separately.

Choosing the right companion

Travel companions on our roster have been hand-picked for the temperament and flexibility long trips require. Check the languages each speaks — for European trips, French and Italian are useful. For trips to Asia, Mandarin or Cantonese can be a real asset. Some companions hold multiple passports, which simplifies visas.

Notice we need

For international trips we strongly recommend at least one week of notice. This gives us time to arrange visas, confirm flight availability, and ensure the companion has no other commitments during the trip window. Same-day or next-day travel bookings are not generally possible across borders.

What to expect on the trip

Treat travel days like a single, extended date. Plan a relaxed itinerary, leave breathing room between activities, and don't try to fill every hour. The point of a longer engagement is the chance to settle into each other's company — something that simply can't happen in a three-hour dinner.

Most clients who try a travel booking once go on to do them regularly. The shift in pace from a single evening to a full weekend is significant, and almost always for the better.
